Front Yard Task Force Presentation

On Sunday, February 24th, the Front Yard Task Force presented their plans for rejuvenating the front area of Grace Church to be:
  • Welcoming
  • Easy to maintain
  • Support the mission of Grace Church
  • Environmentally Sustainable and
  • Provide a green space for rest & recreation for all.
Here are the slides from the presentation. We want to hear from the members of Grace about our plans for the front lawn.  Please leave comments below or speak to a member of the task force with your ideas and thoughts.

or download as a PDF.

During the presentation we also asked those present to answer the following question:
What is the most important consideration to me in rejuvenating our front lawn space?

Please share with us your response to this question or other thoughts you have.

Peace!
Jonathan Hunt on behalf of front yard task force

  1. Here are the paper responses we received to the question of, "What is the most important consideration to me in rejuvenating our front lawn space?"

What is the most important consideration to me in rejuvenating our front lawn space?
    Responses to question:
    • Shrubs/visual break in front of labyrinth to create a sense of privacy. Church of Redeemer in Lexington has this – use as an example.
    • Sign should be 2 faced so can be seen from both directions as people pass.
    • Open welcoming space, green lawn, benches
    • Pleasant welcoming space & User friend so we can walk, play and meditate in it.
    • Accessibility – for strollers, elderly (canes & walkers), wheelchairs – careful choice of surfaces.
    • Community garden
    • Vegetable garden for local food pantries
    • Flags
    • Maximize the practical usage of the space (annual picnic, etc.) while not sacrificing too much of the flowers, trees, etc. (e.g., Flag poles off to the side?)
    • Involvement of kids – Graceworks participation (both Pre-K and After-school)
    • Sustainability
    • Love the community garden and left side is “protected”
    • Moving flag poles good, but is left too crowded – move to front where pillars-like-fence are?
    • Love the idea of labyrinth – yes!
    • Only gray area for me is benches. Love that we can have services outside. How can we setup more, or more flexible seating? Sometimes even stone “steps” can be benches.
    • No benches, all grass. (picture show flowers next to church)
    • Making sure Julina does her fair share of the work!
    • Make the impression of our church inviting and enhance the historic building. Simple, pleasing design.
    • Labyrinth & lots of flowers that will bloom all year long.
    • Love it! 1. Solar motion detector walkway, 2. Garden, 3. Benches
    • Flat lawn & Walkway lighting
